    Saw The Town.

Held your attention, well worth the pittiance I paid, and it absolutely did not suck. But the plot features a few aspects which strain credulity, Fenway
fetishists will reach multiple orgasms . . . and BenA, can you do anything besides Boston? I'll hang up and listen.

Ben, they always tell writers, write what you know. Why not use the same rule for filmmakers?

Century of Self - Four part documentary by British filmmaker Adam Curtis on how Sigmund Freud's offspring and relatives used his ideas to shape modern society. A masterstroke of genius. Certainly one of the best - if not the best - documentaries I've seen.

    Hard Eight

An oldie, but emphatically NOT a goodie.

At least one great cameo of a rising star, but I'm begging . . . BEGGING
. . . people who know NOTHING about gambling not to make gambling
    movies, anymore.

    PLEASE.

    Jesus Mercy.

I thought Hard Eight was interesting, but the director Paul Thomas Anderson has his own love/hate relationship with it. And The Cooler with William H. Macy was damn good.

And anyone else kind of annoyed that now movie "anniversaries" are being touted as news? And I don't mean entertainment news, but "news news." Just saw one in the NYT, or WashPo touting the anniversary of The Breakfast Club. If they want to sell an updated commemorative DVD - tell them to buy an ad.

    Selling papers via nostalgia.
People want to be assured their cherished memories are meaningful, even though it's a lie.

The Cooler was superior to Hard Eight (I remain stupified re how many
talented people were involved in the steaming pile that is HE), but that's setting the bar really, really low. There hasn't been a gambling movie that has come close to shouting distance of greatness since California Split and The Gambler.

Just saw "Get Him to the Greek"

Loved it. Most I've enjoyed a movie this year.

Gave CopLand a spin for the first time in probably five years or so. With the exception of some clearly out of date technology (I.E. Ray's cell phone on the bridge), the flick holds up quite well.

Stallone looks like a fatass here but I guess that was kind of the point.

Good way to spend two hours.

Finally saw The Town, which is the best movie I've seen this year by a zillion miles.

Saw Wall Street over the weekend. I liked it. Love the fancy stuff they have like the clothes and the cool lofts. And it mirrored what happened in reality. The little scene between Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas is classic. I thought Douglas acquitted himself quite well, especially considering he was probably battling cancer while they shot it.
