Interesting similarities between the classic story and one five years earlier.

If Death of a Racehorse were a song, Heniz would be accused of
    copyright infringement.

It was nice of Paul Coover to work a Chris Jones reference into the email to Ben. It shows proper deference to the Long Form Coterie. We know he's a fan, and aspiring member, not a hater.

Heinz disciples have admitted stealing years-old story ideas from others.
Jones doesn't have to hustle for original ideas when he can crib one from a newspaper.
    Or Tim O'Brien.

So if I buy a racehorse and name it Captain Waskow, I'm just begging for trouble, aren't I?

Every time I see the name "Ernie Pyle" I think of this:

Johnny Majors when he was at UT was in his usual surly mood during an SEC teleconference one day when he was asked, "Coach, are there any writers you like?" (He'd earlier been complaining about something written about the Vols that he deemed wrong).

"Well, I like Ernie Pyle," Majors replied.

"Why Ernie Pyle, Coach?" caller asked.

    "BECAUSE HE'S DEAD," Majors replied.

    End of teleconference.

Only if you tweet about it first.

Indeed. Administrators are moving the program out of Ernie Pyle Hall, merging with telecom and other assorted crap and calling the entire shebang "The Media School."

    Don't get us Hoosiers started.

Supposedly Bear Bryant was once asked to contribute $10 to defray the funeral expenses of a sportswriter who died destitute. His response: "Here's a $20, bury two."
