How much did you pay for gas today?

    Indeed it is.

Funny, I was a Petroleum Transfer Engineer in the late 70s when prices first started to threaten the $1.00/gallon mark.

Since virtually all U.S. gas pumps were engineered with a maximum of 99.9 cents a gallon, this was a huge problem for the industry.

Joe and Starman are right, and I almost pointed it out too. But I was puzzled as to what might have made Chris make such a statement.

It was still bugging me as I got gas today, and I noticed that the gallons are listed to three decimal points, while the cost is just to cents (two decimal places).

    $$.cc

Anyway, that third decimal is obviously going to spin faster than the cents unless gas hits $10 a gallon.

So, anyway, I think the spinning decimals are what caused Chris to make an observation that, while spinning slower relatively due to lower prices, was incorrect in how he worded it.

(You can also think of the pump flow rate being the same rate regardless of price, and the sale price thus spinning up slower than what you witnessed the previous week).

Ok. I think I've beat this to death. Happy holidays.

Apologize for trying but failing to be funny. Anyway, gas in Arizona today was just about the same as is LA/OC.

Paid $2.389 a gallon Friday night, though some places around town are still
charging 40 cents more per gallon. Greedy bastards. Why would anyone buy there?

Here in one of the country's tourist hotspots, some gas stations located near theme parks and the airport purposely charge $2 or $2.50 more PER GALLON, figuring out-of-town drivers don't know where to go to find better prices. You see more cars than you'd expect at these stations over near the airport as unsuspecting drivers are filling up their rental cars before returning them.

Driving back from SoCal for Christmas and in Grand Junction tonight. I need to fill up in the morning. Gas station next to the place I'm staying reads $1.89. Giddyup.

Many of those are business travelers on expense accounts and couldn't care less how much they pay for gas.

Down to $1.81 last night. That is 8 cents below what the wholesale price should be. That price hasn't budged much in a week. I'm guessing it'll snap back in a couple of days.

Just finished driving a triangle from OC to Phoenix/Glendale to Las Vegas and home. Prices were all over the chart. Lowest I saw was 2.32 in North Las Vegas. It ranged up to 3.79 out in the middle of nowhere, which I saw a lot of in the past week.

    1.89.

In October 2013 in Charlotte, I paid $68 to fill up my tank. Last night, I paid $30.
