The Jes were in 2 AFC championship games recently and were 8-8 last year. There are plenty of worse franchises over that time

Did all the Niners press conference talk go into its own thread or something? Because, oh boy, did York come off sounding like a complete moron. I await for a yes-man to be the Niners' next head coach.

Meanwhile, Woody Johnson says "why, yes, I'd love to bring back Darrelle Revis" then has to beg Robert Kraft for forgiveness when Bill Belichick calls him on that remark.

And the Raiders seem to be only interested in candidates with prior HC experience: Jack Del Rio, Eric Mangini, Pat Shurmur, Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano.

Oh, and what a great line from the Bears presser to hear that a 90-year-old woman is "pissed off."

The only franchise looking for a head coach, who doesn't seem to be interested in providing entertainment value, is the Atlanta Falcons, where Arthur Blank seemed pretty straightforward. Meaning I expect it's the Falcons who will get Todd Bowles, who seems to be the hottest prospect among those who would become NFL head coaches for the first time.

Some of the Harbaugh stuff went to the CFB coaching thread, but I agree, as a Niners fan, watching York made me feel like that's a franchise that's not going anywhere for a long time.

Super Bowl within two years or you're going to reassess? Talk about delusional. I hate to say it, but the Niners' window ended this season when everybody got hurt. I can't imagine they're contending for much next season unless Kaepernick completely turns things around this off-season, and I'm definitely not betting on that.

They're going to lose a huge amount of the talent base too -- it sounds like Justin Smith is retiring, Gore is a free agent and a couple of O-linemen are too. And there's always the long odds of Aldon Smith staying out of trouble for nine months with no games to play.

Baalke is the worst at drafting skill-position players. He has hit on the big guys, but other than Kaepernick, they don't have a guy who touches the ball who entered the league after 2009. You could say maybe Carlos Hyde, but he really slowed down toward the end and looks like the latest in the Kendall Hunter/LaMichael James path of guys who got drafted to take over for Gore but never quite could. So Gore, Crabtree, Boldin and Davis could all be on the way out, but there's nobody behind them.

I think Hyde will be fine, but Davis and Crabtree are both likely gone. I don't see them keeping Iupati unless they tag him and nobody franchises a guard.

If Willis and Bowmann get healthy and Kaep plays like he did in 2012, they could be OK, but that's really loading up on the optimism.

So glad I'm not a Raiders fan. What a shitty list of candidates. Ryan is the only one who makes any sense. That team needs to finally bring in a really good coach.

It sure sounds like Mark Davis is going to keep Reggie McKenzie.

So you have a franchise with 12 straight non-winning seasons and a talent-bare roster and a tough division and a lame-duck GM and another year of speculation about a move to L.A. Oh, and they typically pay worse than any other franchise and many college programs.

No coach with a rep or a future is going to take that. They might as well hire Tom Flores or Art Shell again, that's what they'll be looking at. This changes if they decide to get rid of McKenzie, but otherwise they're dead before 2015 starts.

I wonder why any "good" coach would want any part of the Raiders, with so many fires to put out, except at QB and PK.

Disagree that the Raiders don't have talent. Carr should be a pretty good one, Khalil Mack is a stud, and if Latavius Murray comes along, they have a pretty good foundation of players to build around. But yeah, if they don't change the front office, it might not be worth discussin.

What is your fascination with the Jets? Why do you think the Jets would be the team he'd coach if he ever came back to the NFL?
