Mariota or Winston?

That's fine, but if having your QB run is a significant part of your offensive game plan, you'd better have more than one.

I love when people say teams should follow the lead of Green Bay and try to do what they did with Favre and Rodgers. You could argue the Pats did that last year, but the truth of the matter is, teams with a future HOF QB don't usually get a shot at a top QB and the Packers had a perfect storm of having one fall into their lap. To their credit, they were smart enough not to pass on him or trade him (although they almost did).

RG3 was the future, too. So was Kaepernick. Mariota is not the future; Russell Wilson is.

I'm not sure Wilson is the future. I think he's been the rare instance of a QB who can run who is smart enough/lucky enough not to get himself killed.

Oh, Wilson is definitely the future. This might sound like hyperbole, but I really don't think it is given his career so far and the HOF arc he is on -- but he is Steve Young without the early-career recklessness.

You know who else can move around like a sonofabitch but doesn't unless he has to? Andrew Luck.

Rodgers was the same way before his concussion.

Not sure that subject is all that funny.

Not sure you understood what was happening. But it happens. We can all move on now, thanks.

Most of this McShay column is behind a paywall, but the part I could see had this from the Rose Bowl:

But in terms of evaluating the performances of the two quarterbacks based on their pro potential, as I did both live from field level and in watching the coach-copy tape three days later, I believe Winston played the better game. And many of the reasons why are the same reasons I'm likely going to end the draft process by ranking Winston ahead of Mariota, who has been my top QB prospect for the 2015 draft to this point.

Mariota may be the prospect with the most upside but Winston is the most pro-ready of the two. When was the last time Oregon's prolific offense produce an even decent NFL QB? None, unless you count the great Joey Harrington.
I think Mariota will go early in the first round and Winston will fall because of his maturity issues and off-field problems. Winston appears to be a plug-and-play option in Tampa but that offensive line is horrid. Maybe the Bears draft him if he falls lol.
