I'm sure this has been discussed on previous threads in previous years, but, seriously, why is is that the brains of head coaches turn to oatmeal when trying to design a game-winning play? We've all seen the stand-around-near-half-court-and-throw-up-a-desperation-three-pointer scheme to varying degrees; Miami took this to a new low against Virginia yesterday. It walks the ball up the court and a guard does nothing but let the seconds tick down while he's dribbling 30 feet from the hoop. This time, he decides to make a pass to a teammate with about 2 seconds to go — not to a teammate inside, but to another player outside the three-point line. He doesn't even get a desperation shot off in time.

Do teams practice being this ridiculously bad?

I think coaches think differently when it's tied (like at the end of the first OT in the game you mention, which is the only real last shot attempt). The priority seems to shift from getting the best shot to getting the last shot and not leaving time. Not saying it's right, but I feel like the scenario you're describing happens a lot less when a team will lose if they miss instead of getting an OT.

Nice win by UVa on the road today over ND, 62-56. Big lead early, then a big drought, but managed to come back in the second half.

Good week for Providence with wins on the road against Butler and at home against Georgetown

The top 20 teams in the AP poll have a combined nine home losses this year. UVA has dealt out three of those losses (at Maryland, VCU and now ND). I don't think there's a team out there with a better resume right now.

Who knew you were a Providence pusher.

Of all the schools in all the sports, Providence hoops might be most unique.

    Providence hoops.

    Providence.
