A Million Ways To Die In The West. Funnier than expected.

The Imitation Game. Hi, my name is Benedict Cumberbatch and I just made a pretty good movie designed to win awards.

But good job England, drive the smartest person in your country to suicide but, hey, at least the Queen pardoned him, 40-somethine years after the fact.

I just saw that last night, remembering it was pretty much lambasted by critics and was on many 10 worst lists.

My opinion: It was no comedy masterpiece, but it wasn't THAT bad. Got a few laughs and liked the two surprise cameos.

Geez, it was just a silly comedy starring Seth MacFarlane. I don't know what else some people were expecting.

(It's taken me forever to get back on the site. Somehow, life goes on.)
Got "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" for Christmas and it's as good as advertised.
Watched and rewatched "Under the Skin." As weird as advertised.
"Grand Budapest Hotel" showed up on HBO this month and I liked it better than I expected.

Lola Vs - By the end of this, i was like "Did anything actually happen in this movie?" The lead is pretty hot though.

Philomena - Absolutely fantastic. Great movie. Character development at its finest. One of the best I've seen in a long time.

Ruby Sparks - Watched this because the summary said it was about a writer. Really strange. Decent, enjoyable movie. Reminded me a lot of Stranger Than Fiction, which i enjoyed.

I've seen Greta Gerwig in two or three things.
I like her but haven't liked the movies.

Saw Boyhood, which lived up to the hype. Great movie.

Watching the latest Godzilla movie and, as someone who unabashedly loves old monster movies, this is the biggest piece of shit I've seen in a long time. Good god, it's boring. The "MUTOs" look like the ThunderCats logo in profile and I figure out why the hell the male and female both left Japan, traveled to Hawaii, then Las Vegas on their way to San Francisco to mate. Why didn't they just hook up in Tokyo? And why are they walking so much when they can fly?

So much about this makes absolutely no sense and I can't bring myself to care about anyone. With about a half hour left in the movie, dare I say it, I enjoyed the 1998 version better. At least that one had Homer Simpson's voice in a supporting role and Puff Daddy mixing up Kashmir on the soundtrack.

I watched Godzilla as well. Thanks Cinemax! Anyway, both creatures had been in the Philippines. One woke up and went to Japan looking for radiation to feed on. The other was found by the Japanese doctor and taken to Nevada to be held at yucca mountain. They had some way to communicate and te flying one made it to Hawaii while the one on Nevada couldn't fly and headed west on foot. They met up at San Fran.

I agree it was hugely boring and wasted Bryan Cranston.

On a three-day weekend and had the opportunity to catch movies not shown on the mainland. Saw two.

"Taken 3." Seriously? Was visiting a friend and this was her pick. It was pretty funny because it the plot holes were so big. But Liam Neeson's easy on the eyes. Plus, the only seat available was "4D," a new experience for me. Apparently this is when your seat equates to a Disney ride - moves, vibrates, spews busts of smoke and little spurs of air. It made me laugh at the most inopportune times. The movie ends, finally, and it's perfectly set up for "Taken 4," which is a shame.

"American Sniper." Hadn't heard about this 48 hours ago. Did an internet search for Oscars and put all the top nominations in my queue, then discovered this one was playing here. After going back to the hostel dose of Liam Neeson, I figured this was probably my only shot and turned back around to see if I could catch it. Had no clue of anything about it and had misread the Oscar story. I thought this was the Jake Gyllanhaal (can't spell it, not looking it up now) one so was totally surprised. Also didn't know it was a Clint Eastwood film but once I realized it was based on a true story I was kind of familiar with the basics.

Anyway, I liked it. It's also nice to realize I still have some of my Arabic language skills, but it's still a very, very weird feeling to watch patriotic American movies in a different country. My reactions to the scenes were markedly different than that of the rest of Taipei audience members.
