That makes a lot of sense - it also means the problem is easily fixed so him coming back is not that far fetched.

If it was related to his neck again, I'd say he is done done.

But this is probably a surgery and some rehab and he is back on his feet.

If the Broncos are going to take one last shot with Manning, though, they have to fire John Fox - he is just not a big-time coach.

He is Marty Schottenheimer Jr, Andy Reid Jr - a guy who is good enough but not really.

They also need to continue to build on the idea that a dominant running game can preserve Manning's arm

An old Manning and a new coach aren't winning either.

Otherwise known as the John Elway Championship Plan.

Perhaps, but the John Fox thing has run its course.

And here is the other thing to consider if you are Denver - you probably have one more shot with Manning. And whatever you think of him, even at 40, he is still much better NEXT YEAR than anyone you could draft, trade for or sign.

The same reason the Bears will stick with Jay Cutler. :)

They went out and spent a lot of money on a defense, and cultivated a run game so they could score 13 in a home playoff loss?

Well, I'm sure if someone could have told them in the offseason that their QB was going to have a torn muscle in his leg and not be able to throw they would have saved that money until this offseason.

I don't know how likely either of these scenarios are, but Manning is much more likely to retire than the Broncos are to let him go.

That's the Tebow formula. Low-scoring and keep it close until Tebow Time.
