A buddy of mine loves to play teasers and posts them on FB every week. I always tell him it's a sucker bet, but he wins often enough to feel like he's making the right play. However, the number of times that the tease actually turns out to be the difference between winning and losing is pretty small. He'd be better off with straight bets on the same two teams more often than not.

Next season, I may have to track those results to show him how much better he'd do if he just picked them straight.

 

Depends who you teased. You could have gone 4-0 if you teased the Pats and Seahawks followed by the Packers and Colts.

The tease would have won you the Packers and Pats picks, but would have had no effect on the Seahawks and Colts. If you had bet the same four teams without the tease, you would have lost the vig.

 

You are correct, bigpern - the tone of the conversation was teasing the favorites. Teasing all for chalk resulted in a Denver loss. I should have been more specific.

Having heard and read many of his other gems, I don't doubt for a second that it is real.

 

Poin, big difference between a 2-game teaser and a 4-game teaser. Also, if you teased Indy, Green Bay, Seattle, and New England, you were 4-0. Your 3-1 is assuming you teased all favorites.

And LTL, I like this particular teaser because both teams are around -7, which means they'd only have to win by 2. Takes the 3- and 4-point margin (27-24, 24-20, etc) out of the equation. Anytime you can skip a choke point (7 or 3 typically), you're better off. And if you already think those two teams will win handily (as I do), this just gives you that little extra cushion. Also means you should probably lay a little on a straight parlay, too.

But again, to be crystal clear, playing teasers and parlays on the reg is no way to go through life. Just ask Xan.
