Answer to the last question is because defense still wins championships. Ask the last three SB winners and this year's favorite. If you can stop or slow down one of those juggernaut offenses, especially in the playoffs, you're way ahead of the game.

That's why it's so mind-numbing that the Niners hired Tomsula.

What that team needed more than anything else was a coach to try to salvage Kaepernick's career and keep the defense as intact as possible.

If you hire Shanahan, you get both because Fangio stays.

People think this season was a trainwreck for the Niners. It's going to be a long time until they go 8-8 again.

Colleague pointed out, from the photos of the newser, it appears Tomsula and Jed York wore the exact same suit, down to the tie.

If the Niners wind up with Rathman and Tarver as their coordinators, they are a last place lock next season.

Tom Rathman? As a coordinator? Is that a thing that could happen?

Welcome to the train wreck that is the 49ers. Harbaugh is laughing his ass off in Ann Arbor.

The 49ers may also be targeting Rob Chudzinski as OC. That would seem to be a pretty solid hire.

So Denver and Atlanta are the only two HC openings left, right? Kubiak for Denver and.....Quinn for Atlanta?

Hope Tomsula makes it. Seems like a decent guy. A football lifer with
hardscrabble Western PA roots. But after watching presser yesterday
I fear that he'll get spit up and chewed out . He's not the type to carry a
room which as an NFL HC needs to be part of job description in this day and
    age.

Year after year I'm still always amazed that Brian Billick's name never comes up.

You have to assume that Quinn gave some indication to the Jets that he isn't going there given how quickly they moved on Bowles. So either he is a lock in Atlanta or he just wanted to avoid the Woody circus.

The one-on-one with the local affiliate was worse. His first three answers were "ah," "yah" and "ah."
