What a shock: Hollywood pushing back at "The Sniper"

Most of what guys? Members of the military? Navy SEALs?

This is such condescending crap, but it's standard thought among the left, as exemplified by John Kerry's comments:

You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.

 

Most of the soldiers, in our all volunteer military, aren't there because they want to be?

 

Well, I'm guessing most of them would prefer not to be in a war zone. I could be wrong. Maybe it really is a lot of fun!

 

Of course there are any number of reasons someone would join the military, from earning money for college to sense of duty to carrying on a family tradition. But my guess would be that the majority of people join for the steady paycheck and the possibility to go on to college.

My guess would be that killing people and being shot at and/or dodging IEDs is pretty far down the list.

 

You're not morally absolved for killing because it's not why you signed up. You know it's a possibility. That's what mattters.

 

Well, if it's kill or be killed, I'll take the former.

 

I would, too. But I still made a conscious decision to put myself in that situation to begin with. And another one when I followed orders to go fight an objectionable war.

 

About 40 percent of active duty military personnel have never deployed to a combat zone.

 

I'm actually surprised it's that low.

Again, there are many reasons people join the service, and I wouldn't think many of them are looking to go to combat. And the fact that they can't pick their battles is part of it. I don't blame them at all for doing their duty. Now, if they are killing innocent civilians intentionally, we can talk.
