Is Mitt running for president again?

To the question of whether evolution is real, I would rather he say yes.

I think we're at the point in human knowledge where we can throw out candidates who disagree.

As would I. But the only reason that question is asked is to hurt moderate republicans in the primaries.

"Hey, he's not as nuts as Santorum or Huckabee, let's run him out of the election over an issue that will never be changed."

The only reason that question is asked is to show just how far removed the Republican debate is from reality.

    It serves its purpose well.

Sure, for the liberal media. There are "gotcha" questions for the democrats too.

I would bet that if you hooked up the republican front-runners to a lie detector, all but a couple would say they believe in evolution.

It's why I hate the primaries. The way they're set up is the reason why a guy like Santorum is able to hang around in the primaries. You're pandering to a couple of states that have way, way, way more power in an election cycle than they should.

But even if Santorum is elected president, is there anything he can do about teaching evolution in school? Honestly, I doubt he'd even try. But they'll be asked about it a zillion times between now and Nov. 2016.

RJ, I understand what you're saying, but don't the fundies voting in those states want to know the answer to that question, as well?

    A fair point.

I prefer when they're asked about things they might actually be able to do something about.

I wonder if it would be different if the three first primaries were Ohio, Florida and another state that they'll actually need to win to win the election.

Well, it's good to see he's on a trip to Europe to gain some valuable foreign policy experience as part of the Wisconsin trade delegation.

I'm just relieved he doesn't have Chris Christie's travel agent. :D

The governor also repeatedly dodged questions about United States foreign policy, citing respect for President Barack Obama. He said American politicians should not criticize a sitting president while abroad.

"Being old fashioned, and having respect for the president, I just don't think you talk about foreign policy when you are on foreign soil," he said.

I wonder if he's going to catch shit for saying he respects Obama.

Chuckling at the smugness toward "the fundies" on display here vis-a-vis evolution. Something tells me the vast majority of folks doing the preening have little more than a Cliff Clavin understanding of evolution and its implications.

There is no place for someone who doesn't believe in evolution to lead this country. None. If you think evolution is bunk science, you're an idiot. And if you're going to "punt" on that question, you're a spineless idiot. Pass.
