I don't know why anyone writes traditional game stories anymore. Those things should have died years ago.

But your take is based on the athlete being non-responsive and deserving of punishment.

    Dead on.

That's another thing we sacrifice, other than resources, for those quotes and insights: Honesty.

One thing you, DD, and myself, I believe, are all onto is this: A beat writer brings a certain amount of value to the beat just by paying attention to the team and the games, because even the most ardent fans can't. Not for 40-50 hours a week they can't.

Unless the best blogger is doing something entirely metrics driven, I think one of the great lies of blogging is the sharp-minded blogger could cover the beat the same way if traditional media up and died.

There is a great benefit to sitting back, reading everything (and taking quotes and information from people physically asking the questions) and then saying what you want to say. I think passionate bloggers have tremendous value, and often the freedom they allow themselves as part of the form, makes for great content. But what they're almost always doing is taking in all the information that is out there — from people forced to ask those questions as part of their job (and do reporting that's difficult and time consuming as far as trades, firings, etc) — and then riffing off of it.

If that were true, then the athlete access would not be as relevant because just sitting in the seat would be enough.

    Correct.

But you seem angry that Marshawn Lynch isn't thrown out of the league.

If you don't talk to the media, you should be thrown out of the league.

    So you don't know why?

For not talking to the media.
