    'Birdman' was very good.

At 1:59, it wasn't very long by current standards, but it was still too long.
There were scenes and bits of substory that were completely superfluous.
They weren't bad scenes. The acting was good; they revealed character.
But they didn't serve the movie as a whole and should have been cut.

I loved the way they translated her powers for the movie, though I will always think of this version of her first.

Reached way back for "The Specials" (2000), not a movie about the 2 tone band.
From a script by James Gunn ("Guardians of the Galaxy") it's about a group of feuding super heroes on their day off.
Shot on a $1M budget - and looks it, with no real special effects except right at the end.
Fun cast including Thomas Haden Church, Rob Lowe, Jamie Kennedy and both Gunn brothers.
You can kinda see where Gunn made sense to Marvel to lead a mega-budget feuding super hero movie.

    Kingsmen was highly entertaining.

I just like the genre and looking at Emmy Rossum ain't so bad either. It grossed more than half a billion at the box office so I'm not the only one who likes it.

I took a date to see it at the theater when it came out and we both thought it sucked, but I guess I contributed to that box office take.

Nightcrawler. Awesome. Gyllenhall was fantastic. As was Renee Russo, as usual.

Recording and plan to watch The Fault In Our Stars tonight, but I just discovered Broadcast News is being shown on one of my local PBS stations. Missed the first five minutes but that means nearly two hours or solid greatness.

Kingsman. I went because the trailer looked intriguing (and Taron Egerton looked intriguing). Really enjoyed it.

I've now watched two movies in less than two months. A look back through my Facebook feed actually shows four movies in four weeks.

In hockey terms, that's like Rod Langway going on a goal-scoring binge.

TCM had the original "Producers" on last night. Still one of the greatest comedies ever. Dick Shawn's number still cracks me up almost 50 years and God knows how many viewings later.

Birdman. Didn't like it as much as I thought I would but Edward Norton was really quite something.

    The drum beat was distracting.
