I am not sure that if Tom Brady falls to the Jets, that he still becomes Tom Brady. Or if Polamalu falls to the Bengals, that he still becomes a future HOF player.

People say that certain teams are great in the draft, but it might be that certain teams are better at developing players once they have been drafted by either using them in a way that helps them the best or placing them around people who work with them the best.

Have no fear, fans of teams with shitty QBs. Vince Young will participate in the new veteran's combine. Hope your city has a Dave and Busters!

As I've said before, I think the only two QBs in the NFL right now who would have been successful on any team, in almost any situation, are Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.

Brady, Rodgers and Brees all had top coaching and made the most of the situation. They also didn't have to start immediately. Eli didn't have to start immediately either.

Other QBs stepped into favorable situations with good teams and made the most of it (Roethlisberger, Flacco). I'm not sure how I would classify Matt Ryan.

They've been saying for ages that the 20-yard dash is much more important than the 40 since it's all about the initial explosion off the line. I'm sure it's different for backs, DBs and WRs.

Yeah. The last couple years, at least, the NFL Network has been showing the 10-yard-splits after each 40 run, too.

Brady had top coaching, but that entire team has turned over around him. I think he has proven he could have succeeded elsewhere.

Roethlisberger has also done a bit more than just be drafted into a good situation. Not only has most of the team come and gone, he has had success with two different head coaches. Brees has also had success with more than one coach and I'm certain quite a few posters around here will question your definition of top coaching by your inclusion of Rodgers in that list.

Actually, don't most of those who rip on McCarthy acknowledge that he's good at coaching up players, just poor at game-day stuff -- specifically, playing with a lead?

When you speak to the top strength and conditioning guys they really frown upon
the 40 yd dash. They feel like it's too easy to rip a muscle.

Many also frown upon the bench as well. You want to get a strength and conditioning
guy agitated ask him what he benches. Be prepared for a 10 minute lecture.

@moonblazewolf: @drewmagary is there some sort of terrible QB punchcard we don't know about where if you start 12 awful ones you get a decent one for free?

In related news, Cleveland signs McCown.

There are more than a few QBs in the league that earn their pay by helping the starter learn the game plan. I figure McCown is kind of like that - Manziel and Shaw don't have enough experience to know what they don't know.

I absolutely believe this. Obviously Brady and Polamalu have some great physical tools, but systems and the other players in those systems were great contributors to their greatness. How great does Brady become if he's taken by the Jaguars or the Raiders?
