I'd like to learn some simple guitar repair, maintenance and setup.
I'd like to be able to cut new nuts, bridges and some basic fret maintenance.
Which tools should I invest in first? Are there any good texts anyone can recommend?
    Thanks

Learned Rock-a-bye Baby for the newborn. Rock stardom is just around the corner. Any suggestions for simple songs to learn next. I'd prefer blues or older country, but I'll be happy to learn almost anything at this point. No speed metal right now, though.

Sunshine, have you poked around YouTube? I find a lot of lessons there. Just type in s song and "guitar lesson." Liked one instructor do much, Marty Schwartz, that I bought his blues DVD set.

This is a primary source for gear. Simple stuff for home set up and maintenance as well as more serious luthiery.

Stew-Mac is the only hard-copy catalog I still get.
I don't work on my guitars, just regular home care, but I love to thumb through the catalog.

    Buck-
That is an old thrill from the past, ain't it.
Leafing through a hard-copy catalog that excites the senses.
I still get this way with antique catalogs.
    Thanks for the tips.

I'm pretty good at switching from open chord to open chord, even the 7ths. But I struggle to memorize songs. I've been working on "American Girl," "Listen to Her Heart," "Box of Rain," and "Curtis Loew," and when I remember what to switch two, it's so fun. But the remembering can be tough.

Unless you're playing a gig, who says you can't have some cheat sheets to play off of? But if you really want to play by memory, I would recommend practicing by sections of the song. Spend a day just learning the progressions for the verses. Do that until you have it down cold. Then spend a day on the chorus. Then a few hours on the bridge and other transitions, etc. If you force yourself to try to memorize a song all the way through, the task can look a lot bigger than it really is.

'Box of Rain' is an odd song.
Once upon a time I had tons of Dead songs committed to memory but I've always struggled to remember those changes.
