I feel for the kid from SMU; he didn't lose the game for the Mustangs. The three buffoons in striped shirts did. The laws of physics would have to be rewritten for that ball to have any chance of going in.

How many coaches blew it yesterday for their teams? I think the SJ count is, what, 16?

heyabbott, While we're not to 2013 level craziness yet with a 15 in the Sweet 16, plus 14 and 13 winners, it's still been 20 years since two 14s won. Consider all the 1-point coulda-beens and a tournament bracket that seemed somewhat boring and certain to be chalk-heavy has become anything but.

There were a lot of close games worth watching yesterday. That's all I ask. Purdue-Cincinnati was hardly a classic, but it was close enough to hold a neutral's interest.

It was definitely a sloppy, sloppy game.

    FUN, fun day.
2 real upsets (GaState and UAB), lots close games, very exciting finishes with a couple of OTs and few blowouts; great day for watching basketball. Also, a fair number of sloppy games, nothing resembling a great basketball game for crispness, execution and well above average displays of sustained skill. I don't know what the average FG% for the teams that played and the FG% for yesterday's games, but it seemed like tons and tons of shots just crushing the front of rims.

Seeds 9-14 are not that far away from seeds 3-8, and where depth isn't an issue in a win-or-die game, its even closer. The talent is more spread out and only the excellent programs of depth on the roster.
In a best of 3 series only the top 5 0r 6 teams have a chance to advance and this year Kentucky losing a best of 3 series to anyone is more improbable than the '69 Mets, '07 NY Giants and the Miracle on Ice.

Sounds a little low. I think there were some winning coaches that committed sins against basketball and humanity as well.

That's true. Just to be safe, let's just say all 32 coaches were bad at their jobs yesterday. Something tells me today will bring the same results. Just a hunch, though.

Are we still lacking an alliterative name for the second round (a la the Sweet Sixteen or the Elite Eight)? "The Thrilling Thirty Two" not getting any traction?

I like that earlier in the thread, there were three coaches who should have each won 2-3 more NCAA titles. If an Izzo for example did win two more titles, they would be at the expense of other coaches. And THOSE coaches would be criticized.

Dogs are 16-4 ATS so far in the tournament.
