it would be glorious if the Jets got good right after Rex. Marriota's better off in the CFL if the Redskins take him

I wonder if that has ever happened before. I'm guessing not, even though WR is a position that teams seem to have higher value than it used to.

2008 was the last time there was not a single receiver taken in the first round.

I doubt that ever happens again.

Teams like the Packers do pretty well taking receivers in the second round (Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Adams), but I think if last year's crop was any indication that receivers may be better suited to contribute as rookies, the value is going to continue to rise.

I would not be surprised at all if 5-6 WRs are taken in the first round this year.

Yeah. There's a damn good chance five are taken in the first round. And the kid at UCF could make 6. That's probably it, though, unless someone reaches for Dorsett or Coates.

Be interesting to see how that position goes. Depth at WR could also have teams putting it off until later.

How deep is WR after the first 6 or 7, though?

Very, IMO. Probably about 12-15 I'd feel good if my favorite team drafted.

Yeah, you're right. That is a pretty good group this year. Diggs could be a sleeper. I'm also interested to see what the USC kid does on Sundays. And the ECU kid caught a million passes.

I really like Lockett. Coates is an interesting one. Both intrigues me (athletic freak) and scares me (drops).
Really curious by the order people are drafted, too. Think there could be a lot of different rankings among teams. (how much DGB's off-field issues scare you, how much Coates athleticism or Funchess' size intrigues you)

I've seen the Chiefs as a landing spot for DGB for obvious reasons. And even after they signed Maclin. That could be a decent WR combo.

    Last year's draft

    First round
    Watkins
    Evans
    Beckham
    Cooks
    Benjamin

    Second round
    Lee
    Matthews
    Richardson
    Adams
    Latimer
    Robinson
    Landry

I'd say that's a pretty big dropoff between the first and second round, even though some of those second-rounders were decent.

I would say the top 5 guys this year all seem like first-round locks, but there seems to be a bit of a dropoff after them as well. I know they say last year's WR crop was probably better than this year's, but this year's group looks pretty damn good too.
