Exactly. Nevermind how crazy the fanbase is, but Calipari has spoiled them so much. Good luck finding another coach who can regularly deliver multiple future lottery picks each year.

I think if Calipari flies, they'll try to hire Donovan again.

If Donovan was ever going to take that job, he would have done it by now. I think the only way Billy D. leave Florida would be for the NBA.

I remember reading a list last summer when the Cal/Cleveland rumors started and they listed John Pelphrey and Orlando Antigua as possible replacements for Calipari... It made me laugh at the time and it makes me laugh even harder today.

I didn't say he'd take the job, but they'd certainly come after him.

I'm sure he'd be on their list, but even someone like Donovan would be doomed to disappoint at UK, especially following Calipari.

Being the Alabama coach is like being the Kentucky football coach. You're always going to be the world's tiniest second fiddle. Kids know that too, which becomes evident during recruiting.

He can do far better, maybe not much better moneywise, but he can go to a program that actually gives a shit about basketball.

I'll stand and applaud if they pull it off...

What's Louisville's plan when Pitino hangs it up? Are they figuring to bring in Richie after several years of seasoning at Minnesota?

Of course Daddy is only 62 and still looks pretty spry, so it's probably not really even a factor for several seasons yet.

And if that is the plan, they could run into a weird little loop that goes like this: if Richie stays at Minny more than a couple more years and doesn't turn the Gophers into regular NCAA tourney participants, he won't be considered "good enough" for UL anymore; on the other hand, if he DOES get Minny up to the point they are consistently B1G top-division contenders and serious factors in the NCAA tourney, he might well decide to just stay put in Minneapolis.

I would say the real key to the B1G pecking order over the next decade will be how long Bo Ryan hangs on and whether Wisconsin can replace him without a big dip in the program.

I'm sure the money is better for Howland at Miss. State, but I think a mid-major would have been a better move. That said, it's been a slow coaching carousel this year (that Miss. State is the only Big 5 job open says a lot). Still, I think DePaul might be a better job.
