Mariota or Winston?

Neither Newton nor Ryan has been anywhere as good as Rivers, which is not to say bad. Nor has Eli nor Flacco year in and year out. As for Bortles and Bridgewater, please, that's where it all got embarrassing.

I agree with Gee's assessment of those QBs. I think you are really underrating Rivers. But even if you disagree with me and think all of those QBs have been better than Rivers over their careers, you are still suggesting it is worth taking a 1 in 5 shot (how you assessed it; I don't think the percentages are that good) that you end up with something better than what you already have -- with the rationale that Rivers is getting older.

The thing is, it's not Mariota or Winston or nothing. That same 1 in 5 shot will be there next year or the following year (after a Franchise tag) if Rivers won't re-sign.

The Chargers can franchise Rivers for 2016 at a one-year rate probably very similar to what he would get anyway. Unless he's demanding a trade or they're in love with Mariota, I would see no need to trade him.

I think Rivers is better than Ryan, but I don't think the gap is enormous.
    Ryan: 64%, comp, 4.6 TD%, 2.3 INT%, 4.6 sack%, 7.2 Y/A
    Rivers: 64.7% comp, 5.4% TD, 2.6% INT, 5.7 sack %, 7.8 Y/A

Again, Rivers is the better QB. I'd take Rivers over Ryan, all else being equal. I think saying Ryan hasn't been anywhere near as good is a little stronger than how I'd rate them.

Anyway, as for the trade, given Rivers age, the value of a good rookie QB on a rookie contract, and my opinions of the prospects, I'd stop and think about a deal centered around a Rivers for #1 pick (and therefore Winston) swap. I wouldn't spend as much time thinking about a swap to net MM.

9/30 if you include Manziel. 10/30 if you include Brandon Weeden.

Rivers vs. Ryan is an interesting debate. Both are very good quarterbacks who have not won titles. I would be very happy with either of them as my team's QB.

The correct answer is Luck, Roethlisberger and Rodgers. And that's it.

I said since 2005 (encompassing all the drafts since Rivers entered the league), so it would be just Rodgers and Luck. But the larger point, that Devil is Devilishly wrong again, stands.

Was that 30 only QBs taken in the first round?

If .500 football is your standard, then you can consider yourself correct.

I consider winning playoff games much more important than posting big numbers against the Raiders in October.

Then why do you have Ryan and Newton on there?
