No shit. I'm not saying they're going to hire whoever the fans want.

And really, is what Pearl did THAT bad considering the level of infractions we're seeing now? Calling him dirty is a bit much, isn't it?

Tennessee is kind of a cursed job. At 6 years, Pearl is their longest-tenured coach since the Berlin Wall came down.

Of their seven coaches since 1989, four have been fired and one resigned under pressure. The two who left voluntarily did so after only three years.

    Wade Houston, 1990-94 (5 years) — fired
Kevin O'Neill, 1995-97 (3 years) — resigned to take Northwestern job
Jerry Green, 1998-01 (4 years) — resigned under pressure
    Buzz Peterson, 2002-05 (4 years) — fired
Bruce Pearl, 2006-11 (6 years) — fired for NCAA violations
Cuonzo Martin, 2012-14 (3 years) — resigned to take California job
Donnie Tyndall, 2015 (1 year) — fired for NCAA violations

Pearl lied to NCAA investigators, so yeah, it is that bad.

Maybe Larry Brown should be the next coach.

But Pearl paid his penance, served his show cause, and when his team played in Knoxville this season, he told reporters he's "a Volunteer for life."

Apparently, Pearl's buyout is a ton, probably more than Tennessee would want to pay.

Will UT and Bama fight it out for Gregg Marshall? Or is UT too tight?

Has an NCAA coach ever been fired, or removed, for violations only to come back to the same school years later?

Not that I can think of. The guys who did it in football (Johnny Majors, Mike Riley, John Robinson) came back after leaving to go to another school or the NFL.

I never realized Jerry Green coached them to four straight NCAA appearances. And they forced him out? Yeesh.

    Maybe Texas too.
