Bad night for coach Cal. Despite still not really doing a very good job of teaching his guys to defend ball screens he had a 4-point lead with 5 to play.

And the 12-0 run he made to get there went out the window as he started having them burn clock and got three shot clock violations in a row with a chance to move it to 6 or 7.

    Terrible.

And it is inexcusable that a team that big gets outrebounded by 12 -- just poor fundamentals in blocking out and worse effort.

That being said what an amazing team to watch and a great season.

I'm laughing at all of those predictable narratives of "the best team over the best talent" and can't wait to see if they are revived Monday if Wisconsin beats another NBA factory team loaded with one and dones and McDonalds All Americans.

Who did Dennis Dodd get pissed at after this game?

By the way, I give Calipari credit for a moment in the post-game presser. Harrison was blaming himself for some plays saying he didn't do as instructed, when Calipari spoke up and said, "He did fine." I thought that was a nice touch.

I'm not sure a team with the player of the year, one who sure looked like it last night, can be easily placed in the role of "best team over best talent." Kaminsky and Dekker are going to be pros, too, and damn good ones unless I'm seriously mistaken.

I can't remember ever watching Wisconsin football or basketball playing for a national title.

It's definitely an upper echelon school but the Badgers always found a way to stumble at least once.

It was a great first half last night. Then I fell asleep. Happy to wake up to see Bucky made the title game. Phenomenal team.

    That's correct.

Two near misses on the football side. 1993 (damn Gophers) and 2011 (Bielema prevent defense).

Off to Indy for what has been the most expensive year of unexpected sports tickets in my life. :)

Has a great college player ever had such an inconsequential game as Cauley-Stein in a Final Four?

He had some moments on defense, but that's it. Wasn't a notable figure in the Notre Dame game, either, except for the last play.

As an unabashed fan of Tark and Rebels, there's nothing fun about that fact or that game to me.

Well, let's see, one roster consists of NINE McDonald's All Americans, the other has ZERO. Does that help explain it? And it's worth noting that player of the year for Wisconsin had been a very lowly rated unknown in high school whose only other scholarship offers were from mid majors like Bradley and Northern Illinois.

Obviously Wisconsin has damn good players (and two legit future pros in Dekker and Kamminsky), but in terms of the type of 5 star raw talent that makes pro scouts drool, there was an ENORMOUS difference on these two rosters.
