Well, the likely scenario is she doesn't report it as such. But in a survey that asks if you were sexually assaulted in college, does she answer yes?

That scenario opens up another can of worms.

The message now is 1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted and it could happen anywhere anytime and you need to be on guard always.

The more accurate message is 1 in ... 10? 20? 25 or more? ... women are sexually assaulted, it is almost always after midnight and in 99-plus percent of cases it is after heavy alcohol consumption.

But that more accurate message cannot be delivered because it is victim-shaming.

Which is strange, because no one would caution against telling people to lock their doors at night, for example.

You're going to have to cite that one.

All right. 99 percent I cannot find. So sub in "vast vast majority." That's universally agreed upon.

So, we shouldn't prosecute, or even investigate, burglaries that happen in homes that were left unlocked.

We should probably stop prosecuting drunk drivers who kill people who weren't wearing seatbelts, too.

For the record, I think that we should prosecute rapes of drunk women. Just to clarify.

Too bad this fake story couldn't have not happened at Duke.

    No, it isn't.

It's more like half. And that's any alcohol consumption, not just heavy.

    From that study, Creosote:

Due to their accessibility, college student surveys tend to employ the most thorough measures of sexual assault by including the largest number of behaviorally specific questions. These studies suggest that approximately 50 percent of college women have been sexually assaulted, and 27 percent have experienced rape or attempted rape; in contrast, 25 percent of college men have committed sexual assault, and 8 percent have committed rape or attempted rape (Crowell and Burgess 1996; Koss 1988; Spitzberg 1999).

So, yeah, I think I'm gonna go ahead and say this one is another that doesn't quite have a handle on the situation.

Conservative estimates of sexual assault prevalence suggest that 25 percent of American women have experienced sexual assault, including rape.

Looks like a very credible article, right off the bat.

    But whether it's 25 percent or .25 percent, it's a problem! What's the difference?
