ESPN's Britt McHenry is Not Nice....

So if you are the Hunan restaurant, with very limited available parking, how would you respond to the Britt McHenrys, who park in your small lot, then go bar hopping and leave their car in your lot?

Tire iron. To the car, not her, although ...

The parking/traffic enforcement racket is one of the biggest farces and worst examples of government extortion ever.

Out of state license plate? "We know you ain't coming back to fight it, so fork you pay the $180"
Don't have a quarter? "fork you we ain't making it easy for you to pay by putting up modern machines, pay the $30"
The sign isn't clearly marked? "fork you, pay the $40 and waste a day coming to court to pay us"
You are on the exact same highway going 65 but now in a "speed zone" we drop to 45 for two miles?" fork you pay the $200

The whole reason for some of the parking meters and speed zones is to generate tickets and revenue for all of these broke ass piece of shirt little towns.

And then there is the towing bullshirt -- which I won't even get to - as that is a whole different level of extortion and ridiculousness.

And all of that doesn't even get to this -- the people who work behind the window are needlessly abrasive and assholes and mostly because they know they can be.

If they tried to be a little bit more courteous - especially when dealing with people who have no idea what they are supposed to do to pay for their fine and get their car back, I bet 3/4ths of their complaints and their angry customers would go away.

But again, when you are behind a bullet proof glass and you work for the government -- ie job security and a union and a police force to back you up - you can be a dickhead and you know it.

Holy shirt, you are on 17 different rants.

We are dealing with a private towing company - not out of state license plates, or speed traps. shirt the only thing missing is how the IRS is stealing our money.
The cashier behind the glass (you know, the case we are talking about HERE) is not a government worker. She is a pissant cashier taking money and having to deal with "I didn't do anything wrong" dickheads all day.

Scale the dosage back, will ya?

I'd actually be interested in a real answer on how a business with limited parking is supposed to deal with parking schnorrers like McHenry who dine at your restaurant and use up a space the rest of the night.

Is that even the issue? I thought it wasn't that she stayed there all night but that her car was there overnight, after the place closed.

Ha ha ha - that actually made me laugh and you are right.

I guess I have watched too many episodes of "parking wars" recently .....

However - if the place was closed, why do they care that a spot in their lot is being taken up? It isn't an issue until the car is still there the next day when they open.

That's it. And lest some ignoramus around here fall into the "But they're not using it then!" trap, restaurants frequently are re-stocked during the wee hours of the morning, by vendors are on very tight delivery schedules. Britt McHenry may not realize it, but her actions have consequences even if she doesn't have to pay for 'em.

What does a car in the parking lot have to do with vendors delivering shirt?

I mean, it sounds like there are only 10-12 spots so maybe it is a small lot - but I get a kick out of these parking lots for strip malls where there are 900 spots that want the ten cars in the lot towed -- not because they care, but because they get a kickback from the towing company.
