It's a crime issue too, zag -- busting out the windows of an unattended car at 3 in the morning is easy pickings. And you have the possibility that some idiot (say, Mitt BrcHenry) might try to retrieve her own car own her own time.

Very good reasons for making sure the lot is empty.

    This is the lot:

The restaurant is to the immediate left. Pretty sure that's the restaurant's window visible above those two white trucks.

    It is.

Something is taken from you and you have to pay money to get it back.

My car was stolen and recovered. It get it, I had to pay $300 to the impound lot.

    I
    had
    to
    pay.

Granted, if you are breaking the law, you should have to pay. But I did not break the law. I was a victim.

Looks like some nondescript business park in Mahwah.

Creosote, based on historical trends, where in that parking lot would you say her bra is?

If your car had been damaged during the theft, would you have expected to have to pay to have it repaired? Or should local body shops have repaired it gratis since you were the victim?

Did they ever catch the thief? If they did, sue them.

My favorite thing is this part of the extortion:

We tow your car away, for whatever reason.

The random time passes - whatever it has been designated as the "end of our day" be it midnight, 3 AM, 5 AM....

Oh guess what, now we get to charge you $35 more for storage because we had to keep it an extra day. And if you can't get down here in 24 more hours, it is $35 more. And if the registration isn't up to date or there is a sticker you need or you have an unpaid ticket that forces you to go to take care of business and come back another 24 hours later - it is $35 more......

    That is bullshit. Utter bullshit.

I'm sure the thief would have a ton of assets for Devil to go after.

Some people would see the consequences as something to be avoided and thus would make sure to renew their registration, pay their tickets and not park in a lot that's clearly marked as YOU WILL BE TOWED.

But to each their own, I guess.

Meh, Devil could have also: 1) filed for impound fees as part of his comprehensive insurance coverage; and/or 2) filed for a waiver of towing/impound fees given a properly filed notice of theft.
