I would guess as part of enforcing the curfew in Baltimore they don't want public events which are going to draw any significant number of people out of their houses at night (even if it was only a couple thousand who would make the drive to Bowie).

Seriously, as soon as the situation became apparent on Monday night, they probably should have flipped the two games to Comiskey, probably played a day-nighter on Wednesday.

They do stuff like this in October for the wild-card playoffs and so forth; it would be tough, but it could be done.

Seems odd they couldn't figure something out quickly, given how efficient the city has been in dealing with all this.

Let's say they moved it over to Frederick (Bowie's got a bigger stadium, but I don't know much about the town and ballpark, so I'll use Frederick as my example). It's a big Orioles town and if they opened up the ticket booths in the morning and sold all 5,000 seats for like $40 lower level and $20 upper, the locals would easily sell it out by first pitch. I'm sure the regular game-day workers would be willing to come in for the actual big league O's in town, but I don't know how easy it would be to do a TV broadcast from there.

Realistically there would be more suburban Howard County people interested in driving over than people trying to get through the trouble in Baltimore City. You'd also be throwing a bone and earning some goodwill with these suburban fans who might not be super exited to head back into the city super soon.

No shit. Who could forget the time the Yankees played that one-game exhibition in Hackensack.

This shit should be happening in DC instead of Baltimore. Then it would get REALLY interesting as the MDW, Military District of Washington, would get activated. C'mon Baltimore, road trip! Speak to the government!

Ha ha just kidding of course. I don't want to be investigated.

Has anyone heard any more about the Gangs "teaming up to take out cops" ? My assumption is that this was just another example of piece of shit cops making stuff up to look like they are the victims. But I am sure that somebody on SJ.com will have some more info. Anybody?

edit for this...Gangs call for calm in Baltimore - Baltimore Sun

Thank God for the gangs. What would inner city life be like without them?

According to posts on various media sites in the past few months, gangs like the Crips are really just a community action group aimed at helping the inner cities. The drugs and killings are just a rowdy few members.

I bet The Wire is the most watched show of May on HBO's new streaming service.

They were hyperventilating about it on Faux Fascist Noise this morning -- repeating the phrase every 30 seconds like a mantra, and helpfully pointing out This Could Happen In Other Cities Too.

I decided to call my local screech radio station and shout, "are our police ready for this,' for a half-hour or so.

I suggested to throw all the blah people in jail. That should take care of it.
