You need to step away from the Andy Griffith reruns.

Sadly, I thought of that song while I was making that post.

I think it was the Freakenomics authors who put forth the theory that the lower crime rates are a result of more access to abortion.

Sorry I haven't taken the time to solve society's ills on a message board.

The government definitely does sanction giving hard drugs to folks as long as they have a prescription and the pharmacies get paid.

One reason heroin is making a huge comeback in our area is the government made it harder and more expensive to get oxy or meth.

Heroin is cheap so now we have more kids getting hooked, an HIV outbreak and more fun.

Cracking down made things much worse.

Most cops, especially in the inner city, have to get along. They understand there's a balance between doing their job and being unnecessarily antagonistic. One hell of a challenge and I don't envy them.

Obviously, it's also a job that can lend itself to corruption or just general dickishness, but do you believe the average cop is just in it to bust minorities? I'd appreciate an honest answer.

You'd be cool if heroin dealing came to your neighborhood?

I believe -- in my limited experience -- the average cop acts like a dick to almost everyone he meets while wearing the uniform. They put out that "don't fuck with me" vibe.

If you're referring to breaking the cycle of poverty, that took generations to create, and would take generations to fix even if the political will was there.

Agreed. Sadly, it is not. Sadder, for political purposes, it doesn't need to be.

I am all for changing laws but wouldn't want to run afoul of the Homeowner's Association.

But you said cops make up crimes to arrest minorities. What percentage do you think does that?

It depends on their leaders. If they are incentived to to do it almost all.

Several years ago in Daytona Beach, cops would stop you on I-95 and if you were a minority, they'd ask to search your car. If they found cash, they'd kerp it claiming it was drug money.

In videos over and over they would let white folks go and search the car if you were black or Huspanic.
