I think maybe, according to a Twitter reply from a regular here, the rules say that doesn't matter. Lundqvist never had a chance to play puck. Without the help, I guess Ward could have been called for a penalty? I truly don't know.

I just want this shit over tonight.

It matters, it definitely matters. That's one hell of a tough call though, especially with Lundquist at the edge of his crease

So for those who want to over analyze this, what exactly did the Rangers do different to score that goal?

Nothing, they scored on a chance that was not in their top 15 all game. Posess the puck, shoot the puck and hope the goalie in front doesn't play great.

They didn't do anything differently. They just finally had some luck -- plus the Kreider-Stepan-Faast line was the best line all game and AV was smart enough to get them out there more.

That was a great game. Also damn near killed me. I was reconciled to the season being over, and the Rangers having lost 4-1 to a team they have more than enough capability to beat. Braden Holtby has played amazingly. Hopefully that changes the series momentum.

Caps have won five straight playoff games at home. I'm holding onto that for dear life. Get 'em Sunday. Maybe the top line will show for the first time in a few games. Glencross ... gets a goal, gives away a terrible neutral zone turnover to set up the winner. Oh well.

I want the Caps to win, selfishly for monetary reasons, but their fanboys are the best on this board. And when I say fanboy, this time it is not derogatory. The range of emotions are great and thehate they feel I understand as a Canuck fan.

We are wired to expect the worst.

If the Caps blow this, I will seriously stop giving a shit about sports as a fan forever. For reals. The constant kicks in the nuts aren't worth the brief joy. Less than two damn minutes away. Jesus.

I guess I don't get the goalie interference rules. Ward was pushed by a defender and bumped into Lindqvist, who was not even in the crease, but in front of the blue paint. How far can the goalie go out and still have it be interference? Similar play happened in Calgary with Perry tied up with a defenseman and they barely bump Ramo, who also was out beyond the blue paint. No penalty there. I'm sure they'll add goalie interference to the video replay list for next season, but it sure is confusing and I bet the players are confused, too.

I'm just not willing to take the pessimist approach on this one, for several reasons.
    1) The chances of surviving another two-minute empty-net flurry, in front of a raucous crowd with the Rangers' season on the line were small to begin with. This is the Presidents Trophy winner, not the Sabres.
    2) I just didn't think 1-0 was going to hold. New York is too good for that. That said, the Caps were on the brink of eliminating the best team in the league on their ice while getting squadoosh from their best offensive players. I'll take that.
    3) Caps have won five straight at home in the playoffs and have yet to lose back-to-back games this postseason.
    4) Beating the Rangers in three straight games is an extremely difficult task. Add in their ability to stave off elimination at home (nine straight wins in such games), and I don't know why Caps fans are acting like this is a funeral. Most sane ones thought a loss Friday was an expected result. NYR scored with two minutes left, not two seconds. It's a gut punch, but a minor one compared to what happened to NYR and MTL this postseason. Take care of business at home in front of what should be an amazing crowd. Get the top line going. Maybe get Fehr back and Glencross out. It's still in Washington's hands. Let's go.
