The Judge was turrible; the non-ending was blah, and the "tornado" scene was so poorly executed it made one think RDjr must have owed a drug debt to the director and producers must have been.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - Iranian art-house flick about a woman vampire preying on the residents of a small, rural city. A little predictable but beautifully shot and worth seeing on the big screen if you get a chance.

Listen Up Philip - Satire about a young novelist (Jason Schwartzman) who goes about alienating about everyone about him. Funnyish, with Jonathan Pryce masterfully playing a Philip Roth type figure living in bitter seclusion in Connecticut, having reached the end of that particular road.

"Entourage" last night. Funny, entertaining. I especially enjoyed seeing all the places around L.A. that I'm familiar with.
I got caught hoping I wouldn't miss anything while I was trying to figure out who the people were who flashed past in the cameos. At the beach party, I'm looking at a gap-tooth guy and my kid finally says, "Is that Jaret Stoll?" And I missed the other 3 L.A. Kings who were with him -- Richards, Carter and Lewis (had to look them up in the credits afterward).

The Untouchables on the free HBO weekend. Man does this movie hold up well. A number of great lines.

The Other Woman this afternoon. Love some Leslie Mann. Oh, and Brooklyn Decker. Pretty entertaining.

They just took every possible cliche they could think of and dumped into a lazily written script. Had Duvall and Downey not been so good, the movie would have been unwatchable. But even with the two strong performances in an otherwise dreadful movie, it was still pretty bad.

I watched I think about the last half of The Other Woman when it first came to HBO; not my cup of tea. But that's Tiger Vols' favorite SI model (Kate Upton), not Decker. (The Dan Patrick Show keeps me up to date on who these people are).

Indeed it is Kate Upton. What with the visuals, it's so difficult to keep these things straight. :D To be fair, I'm a Braves fan and I've tried to block out Upton references ...

It's a holiday weekend for me:
Birdman (DVD) and Jurassic World (theater)

Birdman was good, but I'm not sure about Best Picture good. Michael Keaton was outstanding. I'm not sure what happened at the very end.

Jurassic World, my first movie in 3D, was fun enough. I didn't think the 3D added to it at all, but I thought maybe it was the angle of my seat - I was way on an end. Had some issues with the plot but it was more distracting trying to figure out how Bryce Dallas Howard could run in those heels.

How much are movies in America these days? I paid about $16. I hadn't seen a movie here before but all things considered it seemed steep. I've now seen movies in six countries.

Finally watched Selma last night. Excellent performance from David Oyelowo as MLK. The film shows us how far we've come as a nation in terms of race relations, but reminds us how far we still have to go. While it wasn't perfect, and conveniently left out some facts that would have detracted from the story, it did not shy away from King's struggles in his personal life. King wasn't a perfect man, but he inspired millions. The movie can be described the same way.

We followed that up with Dumb and Dumber To. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, but found the sequel 20 years later to be obnoxious. Sure, I laughed at times, but was overall, I was just annoyed by the movie's stupidity. Then I realized what changed from the first movie to this latest one - me. I'm 20 years older, and damnit, I must have matured a little.

I had the same thought. Especially after the dialogue included an exchange about her attire and its propriety for what they were about to do - an on-foot pursuit in the jungle.

That's an interesting pin-drop game to play. I paid $9 for a matinee of JW. 3D was $2 more IIRC.

I paid $10 for a 6 pm 3D showing at my small neighborhood theater.

I am going to guess we annoyed fellow movie goers every time we said "And she's still wearing her heels!"

Saw Inside Out last weekend. Anybody see it with kids? I kept thinking there wasn't much in it for them.

Robert Downey Jr. was amazing. He really worked well with Robert Duvall and probably deserved his own Oscar nomination. I thought Billy Bob Thornton did a good job as the prosecutor.
