You want ‪Max, the movie about the Marine dog,‬ to be good, but can't just have a dog in a movie and expect it to happen. You have to try, otherwise you get a terrible film like this. In a movie filled with so much bad acting, especially by teen Josh Wiggins, the dog stands out as the best actor.
Filmed in North Carolina and set in Texas, Max should've taken place in Wisconsin because it's so cheesy with plot holes like Swiss cheese.
There are just so many things wrong about Max with its terrible script and a lazily conceived plot. Max will probably rake at the box office in its first week, then fall off after people realize how bad it really is.
    Such a disappointment.

Bad acting, terrible script, horrible plot and for a film that is supposed to evoke emotion, it doesn't. Just awful. During one ridiculous scene, I actually blurted out, "Really?!", in the theater.

I saw it with my seven-year-old yesterday and she loved it. Did she pick up on everything? I'm unsure because so much was going on. Heck, it was a few hours after the ending of the movie until it all really came together for me with what was needed from Joy in the end and why a certain character went away.

Lil 93 did notice a lot, though. I don't want to say what she noticed because that will give away a large portion of the movie.

I think Inside Out is the best Pixar movie ever. I've seen statements like that inspire some tantrums (boy do people take their Pixar films seriously), but I stand by it.

So inventive and imaginative and different. It's fun and sad, but not a sad film. It creates tension without a traditional villain, and it's emotionally true without being overtly manipulative. Yeah, it's more for parents than little kids, but so are the real themes of a lot of Pixar films. Amy Poehler is magical, but so are all the other voices. I think people without kids might watch it and be like "Eh, pretty good, nothing amazing." But if your kids are of a certain age, it will wreck you briefly, and even make you think a little differently about parenting, I suspect.

I'm not sure if I would say it is the best Pixar movie, but I took little OOP to see it today and we both thought it was great.

I get what you are talking about regarding the emotional impact of the movie on parents of children of a certain age as my daughter is the same age as Riley. She turned to me at one point and (very quietly) asked me if she ever had an imaginary friend. And the theater did get a little dusty a couple of times.

I thought so, too, before seeing it today, but the perspective is very different.

My biggest issue with Inside Out is that I can't go see it in the theatre without looking creepy. So I'll wait for a format I can watch at home.

Watched The Loft and The Forger a couple nights ago. The Loft was fairly predictable and less enjoyable than I thought it would be.

The Forger was surprisingly good. Strong performances by Travolta (who is not aging well, BTW) and Christopher Plummer. I didn't find much to complain about.

I think The Incredibles and Ratatouille are more entertaining movies, and if that is what you want, then they might be better.

But if you think every movie plot has already been done, this is proof that it has not. I have never seen a movie remotely like this at all. This is going to change the way I look at myself and children. "Silly Island" and "Joy is still lost" are expressions I have already used this week and will probably use the rest of my life. When my daughter cries, I will try to be like Sadness and think how would her character handle the situation. I'm sure as shit not moving my kid. :)

It is in the conversation for best Pixar ever, which is high fucking praise. It also should be in the conversation for Best Picture this winter.

I wish I could just spoil the fuck out of this movie with what Joy does and does not do and the importance of Bing Bong and his decision because there is a lot to discus. Maybe in a month or two...

I love the concept of the islands. Definitely something that I'm already using in discussions with my daughter.
