    Thanks for the backup, guys.

Considering that just a few years ago many states put this issue to a vote and gay marriage was shot down by 80-90 percent of the votes, I think a little celebration and rubbing it in people's faces is to be expected.

You think gay marriage is leading us toward a Civil War?

In your case I hope Obamacare has squared away the supply of anti-psychotic medications.

Whoa whoa whoa people!! You completely misunderstood me.

I am FOR the decision on gay marriage. I'm just wondering what's going to happen next. I congratulate people for the right to marry.

Not at all. Gay marriage isn't leading us toward a civil war AT ALL. It's the discourse, or lack thereof, between the sides. It's escalating.

It is no surprise that you are allowing your faith to blind you to the need to offer equal legal rights to all citizens in this country given your desperate defense of the Duggars.

I will correct you on a factual error that makes this post of yours even worse. I did not say that anybody who against same-sex marriage has to be against voting rights for women. I don't know whether you simply failed to understand my post or you did that intentionally, but I did not say that.

Tony was making an argument that gay marriage shouldn't be allowed because it was such a fundamental change to how we define marriage in this country. My point was that if it was always wrong to make fundamental changes, then by HIS LOGIC it was wrong to end slavery or give women the right to vote. Next time, please make sure you understand the posts to which you are responding. Thank you.

First, I don't have a problem with homosexuals. The way I treat them actually is pretty much akin to the way Father Martin spoke of how they should be treated. In fact, I'd be willing to wager that I'd probably treat them better than many of you would in passing and in everyday life, just because that's how I am.

Don't forget, I work for a very inclusive company that has a substantial gay population in its employ, one that's well out of the closet, and able, willing, and permitted, to discuss matters openly on our in-house company web site, with respect received and exhibited -- at risk of job loss -- from others.

But I have a problem with them marrying. I think the lifestyle is wrong, don't support this ruling, and don't wish to encourage something I consider wrong, or provide a means of encouraging it. I'm not a "hater." I'm not even intolerant (to wit: how I put up with and engage people here).

I just have my boundaries. As does everyone, whether they will admit them, or not.

Second, if you read through the Duggar thread, in its entirety, you would know that I didn't have "no problem" with a Duggar diddling children.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I can say that you don't read me very well, at all, and you certainly don't know me. I'm becoming less and less surprised, though, and you should stop thinking and trying to sound like you do.

I am also very upset that the people who have been bullied, denigrated, margianalized, ostracized, beaten, and killed because of who they are are telling their oppressors to suck it after the political victory. Why are they so angry?

BDC, just look at the responses to WriteThinking. No mocking, no yelling, no shit-talking from a poster who to my knowledge has never started trouble with anyone calmly and honestly explaining their position and other posters get the knives out. Those people aren't happy for gays who can now marry; they're happy they can treat people badly under the guise of tolerance.

    As I always say, TINMHITTMAL.
