Yes, that's what is was about.

This sort of sums up the thread...

WASHINGTON—Following the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling that bans on same-sex marriage were unconstitutional, the nation’s homophobic bigots reportedly conceded today that “rules are rules” and announced that they were going to pack it in. “Well, this certainly went against my personal beliefs, but we must respect the Supreme Court’s ruling,” said Dale Howell of Avery, TX, who, like millions of his fellow intolerant Americans with an intense hatred of homosexuals, believes that he had the opportunity to make his voice heard and is now ready to accept the highest court in the land’s decision and move on. “Obviously, I’m not going to like it. However, my hands are simply tied. The law is the law, and that’s really all there is to the situation.” Sources confirmed that the energy homophobes normally spent discriminating against gays will likely be reallocated to further holding down African Americans, Hispanics, women, and transgender individuals.

I don't know. I think yuppies go to gay events no matter what. My brother does, and he was a long-time poon hound. The demographic's devotion to attending gay pride functions is only occasionally interrupted by a World Cup soccer watch party.

For one, that generation includes straight people as well, and I haven't seen anyone make the case that straight millennials shouldn't be allowed to marry.

But regarding gay people...maybe it's harder to make a lifelong commitment when marriage isn't an option. Maybe it's easier to split up when you don't have to do any legal disentangling.

And the simple fact is that for most of the history of this country, society has made it extremely difficult for two men or two women to live a "married" life. For some people, the non-monogamous habits have stuck around even when marriage became a possibility. One of the great things about this ruling is that it provides more stability to a group that both needs and wants it. It will make a lot of people's lives a whole lot better, without any victims.

If two people want to have a non-monogamous marriage, and they are both good with that ... who cares?

It will be interesting to see if GOP Presidential candidates emphasize the selection of SCOTUS justices to try to whip up their base. Scalia and Kennedy both turn 80 next year. A Democratic president might get the chance to replace both, or others, in the next four years.

Not sure it will matter, though. GOP can flip the states Obama won by less than 51 percent (Ohio, Virginia, Florida) and keep North Carolina and still lose 272--266.

That's what I think is most interesting about this "retention vote for SCOTUS justices" idea we've heard from some in the GOP this week. Unless the party makes electoral inroads, the court probably only becomes more liberal.

A lot of churches don't recognize re-marriages. Some of them also frown upon marriages in which one or both of the people involved cannot have children.

And, they're still free to do both of those things even after Friday's ruling.

A younger friend of mine's wife is an up-and-comer at a big defense contracting firm, and the other day he was telling about some of the nonsense she's had to deal with as she's moved up the ranks. Apparently last year she got drawn into a clusterfuck involving two swinging couples, all four members of which worked under her. Apparently the younger wife screwed the older husband, but when the younger husband was ready for his go at the older wife, she (the older wife) said thanks but no thanks. As this led to the happy foursome not being so happy, all sorts of (corporate) instant-message and (corporate) e-mail shenanigans ensued. In the end, both the younger husband and wife and the older husband got fired for sexual harassment. The older wife kept her job.
