Guess it was just a debate with some beer snob buddies. They say on untappd, don't check in every yuenglings or budweiser. I said if they check in NYFRB and count that as beer I'll check in every Yuenglings. would like to try the 19.5 NYFRB, the 5.9 doesn't seem to even have alcohol in it.

Why are you drinking Yuengling and Budweiser?

Yuengling is 22 oz for 2.22 at my local Buffalo Wild Wings wannabe and it's either that or Bud Light.

    Because I like them.

Bell's Two Hearted Ale, I don't like overly hoppy beers and I dont get why they are the tits of the craft beer hipsters, but this is a really good IPA.

We've got local, very small brewer, and I am currently very hooked on his black IPA.

For me, Two Hearted is the ultimate example of a beer that I admire / deeply appreciate.....yet simply don't like. I find the floral hop to be just too much. It's a relatively local / staple brew around here & I've tried like hell to like it. Just can't. Go figure...

Thankfully, breweries are starting to trend away from the hop bomb as the IPA of choice. Plenty are still made, but nearly everyone is making something with tropical or citrusy hops that tone down the bitterness of the ale. Green Flash's Soul Style is a great example.

The big boys are finally learning what the small bits have known for a long time -- late hop additions are where it's at.

Trying to find where we were posting beers. Found this thread, last updated in July. That is LAME. Are we at sj.com becoming LAME? LAMER? WTF?

Anyway, last night's pre-Book of Mormon lubrication:

Site: Alewife pub, Baltimore. No riots. No fires. Good so far.

Beer #1: Three Floyds / New Belgium Gratzer. 16 ounce pour, 4.5% ABV. A smoked/rauchbier based on Polish brewing. Dark, great flavor. Quite a bit different from a stout.

Order a second beer. Girlfriend gives me a stern look, says no. Order it anyway. Still have about 50 minutes to show time, and dinner (Smoked Burger) hasn't arrived yet, so, WTF. GF relents.

Beer #2: Brewfist / Prairie Spaghetti Western Grappa Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. 12 ounce pour in one of those little brandy sniffer glasses. 8.7% ABV. Really enjoyed this one too. Girlfriend kind of approved as it came in a smaller glass. I have not educated her on the fact that smaller glass = higher ABV.

I ordered that one just because it had "Spaghetti Western" in the name. And I still have no idea what the fuck Grappa is. Will google later.

Order third beer. Girlfriend gets pissed, really says no. Hey, I am paying the tab here woman. 40 minutes to show time. Plenty of time to cross the street and pee and get to my seat.

Beer #3: Left Hand Wake Up Dead Nitro Imperial Stout, another 12 ounce pour, taller glass, but still small looking. GF seems OK with it. ABV 10.2%.

File this whole episode under: How to drink the equivalent of 5 or 6 beers, while your GF thinks you only had 3. WIN!

And, yes, Book of Mormon was great. Holy cow. Hasa Diga Eebowai!

Another highlight on the night - ran into retired WJZ morning broadcaster Don Scott in the Hippodrome. Congratulated him on his retirement - he's now 16 months into it. God bless him - he put up with that charlatan Marty Bass for dozens of years. Marty is not a meteorologist. He's a TV personality that does weather and likes half and half after midnight.

Don Scott is a class act. Great to see him and his wife out on the town, and still in town. He worked at WJZ just over 40 years. Salut!

About a month ago, one of our tiny little tap rooms in our tiny little California town did a tap takeover with Founders out of Michigan.
I didn't try every style they offered, but I will say that:
    • The Founders black IPA was not as good as the local.
    • The Founders red IPA was one of the best I've every had. I love that red ale/IPA hybrid. I don't know why more people don't do it. That Founders red is fantastic.

I always forget to post on here now that I have untappd. If any one wants to add me and chat about beer I am (predictably): spikechiquet

Here are a few of my latest drinks:
DuClaw's Dirty Little Freak - Much better than Sweet Baby Jesus. Salted caramel choco brown ale. Awesome.

Maumee Bay's Jefferson Lives! - An American Dark ale with "blood". Not sure what the secret ingredient is..but it comes out brown with a red haze. Tasted good too.

Nowhere in Particular/North High colaboration: "Grog of the Grogan" - A FANTASTIC Wee Heavy with Figs and Cherries

Twisted K-8's Casual Sex: 22% Imperial IPA. Super balanced for a TIPA basically. Reminded me of OJ because of the smell and taste
