Tangent here, for the Bible thumpers: Can you find me a quote that derides cronyism and back-slapping? Thanks.

You just described every politician in history. Byrd is no different, better or worse than any of them. Has any one of them ever issued a straight-forward, explicit apology for ANYTHING? Especially while trying to remain in power?

That's why I mentioned that the wishy washy non-apology Byrd offered was the most anyone could reasonably expect.

    OK.

And, when Starman, and the other Dems on the thread, sign on to this belief, I can drop my argument.

I've never said that Dems of the time were somehow worse than their counterparts.

But, Starman told us that Dems threw out their racist members that didn't repent. That's just not true.

You focus on Robert Byrd when half of the 16 Republican presidential candidates are racist? Or at least say racist things to make the base feel warm and fuzzy.

LOL. The Democratic field is all white, with an average age of 68.6-years-old.

The Republican field includes an African-American, an Indian-American (not the woo-woo kind, the kind from India), two Hispanic-Americans, and a guy who met his wife while on a school trip to Mexico, and whose children are Hispanic.

At least three of them are first generation Americans.

Meanwhile, the Dems have an old Socialist who moved from the diversity of Brooklyn to one of the Whitest places on the planet, and a guy who locked up half of the African-Americans in Baltimore.

But, the Dems are the party of diversity, right?

Hey, blame term limits. Besides, having a Kenyan Moooslim Neeegro in the Oval Office for 8 years gets your party a 12-year pass on diversity.

We were talking about racism, I thought. Only white people can be racist?

    That's seems a tad narrow-minded.

    Can't. He's off the clock.

Much more enlightened to say only Republicans are racist. I mean, what good are talking points if you can't use them to ignore reality.
