Walt Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, and his bow and arrow are about to have an interesting week

Lol. One of the replies to the Boehlert tweet says they found marijuana in the lion's system.

That's my line!

No, not you. I realized after I posted that that could have been taken that way. But it was just a reiteration of my sentiments with regard to the issue in general.

Walt's a lying asshole poacher, and I hope whatever court of law gets him can pin the max on him.

And the guides, as well.

I'd like to dump about 200 rattlesnakes off at the PETA headquarters. PETA wouldn't mind.
Or even a dozen skunks.

Yeah. I suppose he never imagined the reaction.

Most people have no problem with hunting, so it may be hard for some to realize why this sparked outrage.

I think if you kill something that has a name, you might not want to celebrate too much.

I really don't see this as pro vs. anti hunting issue, as I'd think even hardcore hunters would condemn what happened here. We're talking about a tagged and collared animal living in a protected park that was lured out by dragging bait behind a vehicle just so it could be shot the moment it stepped across the park boundary. I'd think even your passionate hunters can find outrage in that conduct.

And then when you learn Palmer has a prior 2006 criminal conviction for poaching activities, including being caught lying to federal authorities about where he'd illegally killed a bear and ...well, he's dug his own grave. The thing about poachers is they rarely ever get caught, yet Palmer's now been busted twice, so god only knows how many other animals he's illegally killed while getting away with it.

The internet beating he's taking might be vicious, but I surely can't say it isn't deserved.

Gotcha, now I understand.

I used to hunt many, many years ago.

There are pictures of me with dead ducks, in case anyone cares.

This actually brings up a very salient point.

The pictures -- usually with the hunter smiling while showing off their dead "trophy" -- (I can even imagine you holding up your kills, if they're nobody-gives-a-damn ducks) -- for the camera, gripping them either upside-down by their feet, or by their wrung necks) -- seem to make things so much worse.

It's one thing to do something that a lot of people don't like, but to be taking celebratory pictures of it, and sharing them publicly, is just galling...too much so for anybody who doesn't care for a hunter's actions or the unequal playing field, anyway.

Serious question:

In my office, I have a photo of my then-5-year-old son holding up a fish he caught, and smiling proudly.

Off with his head then?
