I figure that an Olympic medalist in judo would have any of us tapping out very quickly indeed.

I know I said this earlier, but I just don't get how anyone could approve of women beating each other for sport. Absolutely no clue why this is even a thing.

Well, it's a goofy damn sport, MMA, and to Rousey's complete credit, she has perfected the one move that absolutely works over and over if you can execute it - the armbar.

Her appeal isn't really about that stuff, and I don't think it's really the looks. Rather, it's her story and personality. I suspect she's a person who desperately wants to be liked - the big-mouthed villain usually does - attends every appearance asked of her, usually says something somewhat obnoxious, and has a big, genuine smile.

Because some men fantasize about having a bed with turnbuckles, then being slammed into one of them and pinned to the mattress.

True - but if you look at this latest fight, Correia is a striker, and Rousey never even made an attempt to grapple. She took her on standing up and beat her at her own game. Rousey is by training a judo player, but she's getting better and becoming more rounded in other phases of fighting.

How is it worse than men beating each other for sport?

It was pretty hard to take that fight seriously.

It is hard to take any Ronda Rousey fight seriously, outside of maybe one or two. There are only two fights I'd actually make an effort to watch with Rousey - vs. Cyborg and vs. Holly Holm (a world-class boxer). Anything else will be another first-round dismantling. She just has such a huge head start on the rest of the field because of her judo training.

No one who follows the sport even a little closely thought Correia had a chance, but the UFC had to sell it somehow, claiming she was a striker with "one-punch knockout power" despite the fact that she had never knocked anyone out with one punch.

  12. She's supposed to fight Tate again. Although fight isn't really the word.
Tate, is one of the few foes to last beyond the first round - she did so AFTER Rousey ripped out her elbow with an armbar in the 1st round. According to Rousey's autobiography she allowed Tate to go a few more rounds to punish her, cause she was pissed off about the realty TV MMA show on which the two were opposing coaches.
