Everything reported about a crime before a trial has the potential to prejudice a jury pool.

Right. That's why it's the newspaper's obligation to make sure it's true, or at least substantiated, before reporting it.

    Off top of my head...

Responsible news organizations don't name accusers in a sexual assault case.

The reason is that the public will dig up prejudicial details on the accuser, which would impact the court proceedings.

Journalists are not supposed to insert themselves into the story with the effect of altering outcomes, particularly where court proceedings are involved or where doing so would put people in danger.

The bar owner said that he saw Kane leave the bar with the woman.

The woman reportedly told the police that she left the bar with Kane.

That seems substantiated enough to me to go with it.

    Wrong Dick.

    Two women.

    Check your facts, my friend.

“I don’t know if this is the same woman who made the rape allegation against him,” Croce said.

    Make that 2 women:

Croce said the woman and a female friend “followed” Kane as he left the nightclub with a couple of male friends around 3 a.m. last Sunday.

Right. And I believe the stories line up. She told the police that she went back to Kane's house along with her friend. The bar owner's account: Croce said the woman and a female friend “followed” Kane as he left the nightclub with a couple of male friends around 3 a.m. last Sunday.

How do you know that the friend isn't the accuser ?

Maybe the "friend" was all flirty and possessive and the alleged victim was quietly crocheting and sipping a virgin daquiri all night.

I don't. I also don't know that my cousin, neighbor, or pediatrician isn't the accuser. It seems likely enough to me that the woman who was spending time with Kane throughout the night was the accuser that I don't have an issue running it, particularly with the bar owner's caveat included.
