The story never ventures a guess as to how the marks were obtained. Only that they were discovered during the course of an investigation.

    Ah, ha.

Can you direct me to the portion of the story where the bar owner says that the woman Kane was with was his accuser?

Can you direct me to the portion of the story where he says that she had it coming?

For one thing, we know that there are marks on the body of the woman who claims to have been attacked. We don't, however, know if the woman the bar owner saw is the accuser or some random woman who flirted with Patrick Kane in a bar. You see the difference, right?

What is the evidence that the marks came from Patrick Kane?

Not if you insist on being obtuse.

I can, however, direct you to the part where he flat-out says he's talking to the newspaper SOLELY BECAUSE he feels like Kane has been declared guilty already. His stated intention was to assert his buddy's innocence.

You simply can't compare the veracity of his comments to that of information contained in the official investigation.

If one of the top players on the school you covered was accused of rape, you should have written about it. Include the police report, reaction from the coach/AD.

I can't imagine not covering it unless the charges were dropped before you ever found out about it.

Who was the source of the "information contained in the official investigation"?

And now his life is over because of a possibly false allegation, while nobody will ever know who she was.

(For the record, it wasn't my call. It wasn't my beat.)

    "His life is over"?

OR, the school helped make this thing go away and he's free to rape another day because everyone played ball.

I think there is very little upside to making a rape accusation in most cases. So I tend to give the ALLEGED victim the benefit of the doubt over the accused.

One pretty easy way to avoid all this unpleasantness and not have your life be over is to avoid having sex with women who don't want to have sex with you.

Or don't have sex with women you barely know who could be crazy enough to make up a rape story the next day.

Are you suggesting the newspaper never vetted its source?

I definitely believe that the vast majority of accusers genuinely believe they were raped, yes.
