Lots of posts on a board filled with journalists/former journalists kind of proves my point.

There have been loads of sensational killings that didn't register a blip.

A cop was murdered on camera the other day, and it didn't generate this kind of response.

I get why it would be a big deal to journalists.

But, what you cover for a national audience should be driven by things other than your own emotion, and the fact that it involves victims in your industry.

Cops by nature risk their lives on the job every day. Journalists sometimes do too, but not generally when they're doing a fluff tourism piece.

Right. Which is where I would expect it.

Journalists venting here is one thing. Turning it into the sensational news of the day is another.

Well, they're in a unique position to highlight their close-to-home tragedies.

Yes, because we don't want our reporters out on the streets of the communities they report on.

This is possibly getting close to home for me, so I turn on the local news for updates and Kim Fucking Kardashian is on NBC. What the fuck?

Had to turn on cable news.
