My thinking on this is a little colored by spending all day yesterday working on A1 for a Virginia paper. My first instinct is to say the WSJ erred in not putting it out front. But while there are plenty of interesting and shocking aspects to these shootings, I can understand the biggest papers not seeing it as a front-page story, as something that encompasses elements of a bigger picture. I can see the editors not getting past "horrible thing that happened in small-town America." And really, there is very little difference between A1 below the fold and not A1.

 

This is stupid, even for you. One was related to global terrorism. One was most definitely not. Unless you know something about Vester Flanagan that we don't.
