" 'Good Morning, America' just couldn't catch a break from its ratings freefall Wednesday morning, as events once again pried the nation's eyes from ABC's venerable morning show ..."

New York Daily News front made my skin crawl.

The person that actually signed off on that cover should be ashamed.

I'm fucking pissed off today. You were right, Alma. I'm pissed. And I'm not even that pissed at Vester Flanagan. I'm fucking pissed off at all the people who think sticking a ribbon on their Facebook profile photo or inventing a hash tag is enough.

And I'm volcanic at Nicholas Kristof and the other "voices" yesterday urging us not to watch. Fuck them.

    I'm pissed.

Brief tangent: While it's interesting to see how various metros played the story ... will A1 or A3 of the WSJ really matter after people have been watching the shooter's Go Pro video online all day?

I'm old-fashioned in much of my thinking, but the hand-wringing over stories being "above the fold" or even "on the front" is 1970s journalism. And believe me, we waste plenty of precious time on this issue in my shop, and it's very annoying.

    Tangent over.

I don't know what the solution is. But I know that it isn't Facebook profile pictures and hash tags.

There's no reasonable defense for putting that on the cover unless you're doing it for shock/awe.

    Mission accomplished, scumbags.
