Folks are ripping the Daily News but no one has commented on the fact that at least two of papers posted on the last page - St. Louis and Miami - ran FRONT PAGE photos that showed Adam Ward's body lying on the boardwalk.

People have seen dead bodies before, especially at that far of remove. They haven't seen young women murdered. It's OK, though, when it's a black man shot by police.

Dick, would you like it if someone assumed that you must suck at your job if you have so much time to post here? You're taking giant, uninformed leaps by equating hashtags and FB posts with "thinking that's enough."

Maybe a little shock is what we need. I'm weary of this notion that Americans can't handle the image of a gun pointed at a real person when nowadays nearly all our favorite TV shows, movies and video games are blood splattered orgies of folks getting slaughtered, beheaded, crucified or murdered in whatever other creative way writers can come up with. But god forbid we should see images of our real world gun violence.

A statement like that without data is an opinion.

People choose to watch those shows and play those games. When they tune into the news they don't expect to see a snuff film, and when they get on the subway they don't expect to be confronted with a frame by frame presentation of a young woman's last seconds.

The shock could have been worse. What if the first shot had been to her face/head? As disturbing as the live shot was, at least it was more from an audio standpoint than a visual. If the live viewers had seen a shot to the head and a collapsing body, that would have been even worse.

And it's probably going to to take something that gruesome and gory to really get serious about guns in this country. And probably even not then.

I'm not a big gun guy -- never have owned one, have shot a couple of shotguns -- but do y'all really think the general populace is that ignorant about how violent a gun death is? That there's this whole swath of people who, but for this video (or something similar to it), never realized that people get shot and killed by people wielding firearms? Sorry, I ain't buying.

The reason we haven't gotten "really serious about guns in this country" is that the only way to do that (in the manner being alluded to) is to repeal the Second Amendment. Period.

You're asking if a certain group of Americans thinks the general public is too dumb to understand a given issue?
