Saw Owen Wilson's new movie, No Escape, on Wednesday - a week ahead of its release. It is a super-intense, edge-of-your seat survival thriller. While it has a fairly predictable plot, it's also got non-stop action throughout and a brisk 1:45 minute run time.

Watched "Mortdecai" just now. Bombed at the box office, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Great cast (Depp, Bettany, Paltrow, McGregor, among others), and a very British sense of humor (which is probably why it didn't perform well stateside).

Saw a screening of The Visit, which is weird and creepy, but also hilarious. M. Night Shymalan can be hit-or-miss, so this was definitely a pleasant surprise on the summer moviescape. Don't go into The Visit expecting a horror film. Think of it as a suspenseful comedy, because that's exactly what it is, and it's fantastic.

Saw Mission Impossible 4 (or is it 5? 6?); kept me awake; some decent scenes but really close to getting ridiculous.

Best part of the experience? This was an older theater, not one of the newbies, and so they were showing this in a theater where all seating was two seat loveseats, great comfort!!!

Not an actor/actress, but there is a famous writer who does this:

    True Story
James Franco and Jonah Hill in the story of former NY Times writer Mike Finkle and a guy who killed his wife and kids and used Finkle's name in Mexico. It was meh.

    The Imitation Game
I'm not hige on Sherlock, only seen the first two, and was lukewarm on Star Trek 2, but I liked the lead in this and the story. Good stuff.

Straight Outta Compton isn't just a movie. It's a journey, and a journey you'll want to experience again. Oscars should follow. It might be the best movie we've seen this year.

Saw Straight Outta Compton yesterday. Not a good movie; a great movie.

Loved it as well. It got a little hagiographic (if that's a word) at times, including when it entirely skipped over Dre's woman-beating escapades, but otherwise really enjoyable.

For the "I Didn't Realize He/She Was In That" thread, but the guy who played MC Ren was VooDoo in Season 1 of "Friday Night Lights."
