Can we gravitate away from abortion on this thread? Not every death chat is about fucking abortion.

I'm pro choice but I think a pro lifers answer to that is they believe its murder. Government hand outs don't change that fact.

Yeah, that's what I figured. But doesn't the science say that the fetus is not a viable life form until 20 weeks or so?

If we believe the science, of course.

Maybe you're on to something. If it's OK to kill anyone whose brain isn't fully developed, there would be no Democrats.

Genius! I'm also genuinely curious why Republicans' main tactics seem to be too lob insults at lefties and make up scenarios and tell the Democrats how they would react.

First, some Christians don't feel this way. They're against abortion and for a kind of safety net/welfare state that is more robust than what we have.

Second, there are some on the right who think, yes, adoption is the way out of this problem. Lots and lots of adoption. Think of it like you would a charter school with a lottery, only the lottery is really huge because so many people want to adopt.

    It depends.

I saw my son's heartbeat at 5 weeks. Heard it at 7. Someone who can see and hear those things and not think it is a life is someone I will never understand.

Even if the fetus was not "viable," it was my wife's sacred obligation to carry it to viability. That's the responsibility of being a parent.

If I left my 2-year-old to fend for himself, he couldn't make it either. Is he not "viable?" No, he's a child I created, and therefore have the obligation to fend for him until he can fend for himself.

When the health of the mother is at stake, I honestly believe it's a personal medical decision, but I know what decision my wife and I would make a thousand times out of a thousand.

I also believe brain-dead adults should be given every chance to survive. If that's a medical impossibility, then that also is a private medical decision for the family.

Of course adoption is the ideal, but I don't think it's realistic to expect a woman to carry a baby to term that she has no intention of raising.

Sure. But we could write the words "I don't think it's realistic to expect" about any number of actions.

The question has long been, is it immoral in a way that should make it illegal?

Fwiw, I ask that Question about whether most cops should have guns. At this point I'm not sure the answer is yes.

True. But you can't force a woman to carry a baby to term that she doesn't intend to raise. Unless abortion is outlawed, of course. Which I guess would be your point.

Actually read a story in the paper today about police testing out more non-lethal weapons. Wouldn't it be just grand if we disarmed the police and they were outgunned by our gun enthusiasts? Sounds like a sound plan.

Try figuring out how to speak for yourself before you try to speak for others.
