Just got the first ld on Huffington Post coverage of the Kim Davis rally: "On her trip home for a late lunch, her first meal as a free woman since a week ago, Kim Davis ate catfish. Those of us who have accidentally traveled into the bigoted south know catfish is a delicacy. But forgotten is how it violates the book these evil right-wing evangelicals use to force their beliefs on society."

Actually, I'm pretty sure that, per official SJ doctrine, ALL fishing would still be allowed.

Judge releases Davis, orders her not to impede marriage licenses to gay people. Davis' lawyers say she has no intention of issuing licenses to gay people.

    So... why even release her?

The assistant clerks are issuing the licenses. She just has to stand by and let them issue them.

She's not going to let them issue licenses.

“She’s not going to violate her conscience,” Mr. Staver said, a possible indication that she would continue to defy the court. In fact, last week Mr. Staver told Judge Bunning that Ms. Davis would not abide by the resolution the judge had settled on: having her deputies issue licenses without her approval or signature.

Mr. Staver has argued that the problem is that the licenses say that they are issued by the Rowan County clerk, and she, as the clerk, will not authorize them. If that wording were eliminated, he said, she would not stand in the way of granting licenses.

“The court order did not resolve the underlying issue,” he said.

Well, the judge did warn her. They may as well keep the jail cell open for her.

Releasing her and jailing her again will not make Bunning look good.

I have a hard time deciding which is more annoying: 1) Christians (evangelical or no) who get tangled up in these kerfuffles who can't seem to keep their sacred and their secular straight; or 2) people who obviously have no clue about how Christianity encompasses both old (i.e., pre-Christ) and new covenants but who think they've pulled off quite the clever "Gotcha!" with shit like the above.

Hold on ... I really don't have a hard time deciding which is more annoying.

If she really believes, maybe she should take a look at 1 Timothy 2:12...

"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence"

If two gay men come in for a marriage license, she is not allowed to have authority over them.
