There's a wide range between "he didn't do anything" and he wasn't convicted.

In this case I will believe he didn't do anything wrong when I hear him explain how his DNA got under her fingernails.

The Hamburg Police Department put out this statement about the bag. “In regard to the information conveyed today by Mr. Thomas Eoannou, the Hamburg Police Department will cooperate with any authorized investigation regarding the handling of evidence and the procedure of such.”

It continued: “That said, The Hamburg Police Department has documentation that unequivocally demonstrates that it’s handling of the evidence and the integrity of it’s chain of custody of evidence in this case is unassailable. As is policy with active investigations, there will be no further comment regarding this situation.”

Erie County Commissioner of Central Police Services John Glascott also said his department, which handles evidence analyis, followed all proper procedures and that all of the evidence was accounted for.

Glascott said in a statement: “All evidence related to this case that was given to Erie County Central Police Services by the Town of Hamburg Police Department is accounted for and remains in its original packaging in the possession of Erie County Central Police Services. This includes the evidence in the rape kit and the packaging itself. This evidence has been analyzed and reports of that analysis sent to the appropriate agencies.”

 

There's a difference between being hard on him and giving a standing O when he steps on the ice.

 

So the bag Eoannou brought to the press conference is not the evidence bag with the rape kit??

Right, right. And so, for the record, I don't think he's owed any additional applause because of this.

 

Incredibly so, and gets even more confusing the more I think about it.

For instance, her lawyer didn't appear to refute that the tests had come up negative for Kane's DNA in the genital/underwear areas. That leaves me even more confused about the evidence tampering insinuation because you can't selectively erase someone's DNA but leave other samples, and body fluid testing that showed no DNA at all would be a huge red flag to any lab tech. To get the rumored results, or even just tests showing her DNA alone, the samples would have had to have been switched out with another set, but then where the heck would those come from? You'd need at least another pair of her underwear and samples of her body fluid from another time to pass basic muster on these tests with any lab, which seems awfully far fetched.

So if the thought process is the tests should have implicated Kane and didn't because of the tampering, I cannot figure out how that would have happened. Of course, we have the PD saying they have all the packaging as well. Maybe there's a sicko at the local hospital who got into the chart and used the data to make up fake packaging to try and intimidate the family? That seems highly unlikely too.

 

Ditto for Graham's. (Of course, the Kaners have been infesting those ever since the story first broke.)

 

It seems like it was some kind of honest mistake. The PD says that they have the original packaging. Someone saw this address and delivered it, somehow, to her mom's house, which I assume is her house, as well.
