Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr., and it's not close. Mayweather made more off beating Saul Alvarez, but that's because Golden Boy took a big cut and because of the inflated costs for that fight.

Looking forward to the Deontay Wiilder fight, which comes up next on NBC. Never seen him fight, but after watching this (
) he's clearly a guy I can root for. And he makes me excited about boxing again. Maybe there's a future there, after all.

Saw this guy on College GameDay last(?) weekend, and he seemed like a great kid. Won't be able to watch.

Wait, did you say NBC? ...a big boxing event on free network TV? I thought that species went extinct in the 80s.

I'm just curious how an athletic muscular 6'7" dude raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama didn't end up on the football field.

I was stunned, too, to see boxing on NBC tonight. Not stunned enough to watch it but stunned, nonetheless.

Hmm ...I did not know that. I remember as a kid when title fights on the big 3 networks were a regular thing. But that was a long ass time ago ...back when the sport was genuinely relevant. About time it came back.

I recalled hearing about it when it debuted, but work Sat nights so forgot about it. Definitely should help the sport some.

I read before his last fight that Wilder desperately wanted to have his first title defense in Tuscaloosa, but the University of Alabama stonewalled his people when they inquired about using Coleman Coliseum. Didn't give him the time of day, then offered some lame reason about a few low-key campus events creating a schedule conflict.
So, Wilder's people called Birmingham officials and it took them about 2 seconds to say yes. They had some schedule conflicts too, but found a way to make it work. Now he plans to fight there as often as possible.

I caught the tail end. I give the French guy a lot of credit for taking that level of battering for 11 rounds.

I was part of a group that met Wilder and his huge entourage at the MGM Grand last January, so I've taken a little interest in watching him. He'll be tested when he fights Povetkin, and if he gets by him, Kilitschko.

If Floyd or guys like him fight powderpuffs like Berto no wonder boxing is a joke. Fights you know the outcome of before-hand and they promote the sh#* out of them. Joke. That E-60 roundtable is creepy btw.
