Yes. You should appreciate the sandwich, because it's food that millions of other people don't have, so you are fortunate to have it, even if it's just a little bit.

Just because something is a business arrangement doesn't preclude the possibility of appreciating it. That's not some sort of acknowledgement that you're perfectly satisfied with everything it entails.

There's no doubt they have happier employees. I'm not so sure it correlates to an improved bottom line. I think it should, but I don't know that it does.

And just who is responsible for those millions of people who don't have food?

Oh, you can bitch away about the industry.

But the "woe-is-me" stories from those still gainfully employed aren't going to elicit a whole lot of sympathy.

Example: The industry is sucking wind and is not as promising or as rewarding as it once was. And there is no reason to believe things will get any better. That being said, I love still having a job to go to every day.

Bitching about your journalism job in 2015 sounds like a Titanic survivor bitching about the comfort of the lifeboats in 1912.

Are we allowed to blame the assclown White Star Line for false advertising about the "unsinkability" of the ship and for stupidly not having enough lifeboats?

So you don't feel compelled to appreciate how fortunate you are because it's not your fault people are less fortunate?

Why should I? After all, isn't it their own fault they're hungry?

    Okay, terrific.

    I think we're done here.

Wait, so it's not their fault that they're hungry? Their happiness may hinge on circumstances beyond their control? They aren't the only ones responsible for their happiness?
