Trout with a triple to start the top of the ninth in a 1-1 game and Pujols follows with an RBI single. Holy crap, Trout is fast. We talked on a different thread about why Trout doesn't steal as much anymore and someone suggested he's lost a step. He hasn't.

That kid is fucking fun to watch.

Arrieta lowers second-half ERA to 0.86, a major league record. Overall ERA is 1.88, the Cubs' first sub-2.00 since Grover Cleveland Alexander in 1920.

Pirates are gonna have another nice one-game, zero-run postseason.

Arrieta's ERA dropped to 1.77, not 1.88. Greinke's going to need one hell of a final start to win the Cy Young.

Astros beat the D'backs 21-5 to go a game up on the Angels for the final wild card spot.

I don't know about Arrieta. That game will be at PNC Park, and the Cubs will be playing out of their comfort zone.

Then again, this IS Arrieta, who clearly is the No. 1 pitcher on the staff. We'll see what happens.

Actually, they already were a game up. They just held serve on Friday.

The Astros aren't pissing about with the wild card. They have Game 163 Monday in Arlington on their Palm Pilots.

Arrieta entered today's game with a 1.68 ERA on the road, 1.95 at home. He has dominated the Pirates this season, with a 0.75 ERA in five starts. I think he and the Cubs will be quite comfortable.

    Arrieta 1.77 ERA, 236 SOs.

    Greinke 1.68 ERA, 192 SOs.

Both are so damn worthy. Kershaw, too.

Greinke still has a start tonight against the Padres, a team he has shut down with a 1.26 ERA in four starts this season. I believe that one is at home, where his ERA is half a run lower this year. I think he needs a dominant start to win the award. He certainly needs to keep his ERA lower than Arrieta's.

And in any other year, Gerrit Cole would also be a serious candidate.
