Clinton would also back legislation closing the "Charleston loophole," which federal officials say allowed the man accused of killing nine people in a South Carolina church earlier this year to obtain a gun. Under current law, a gun sale can go through if a background check isn't completed within three days. The South Carolina shooter's background check, which would have been flagged, wasn't finished in the allotted time.

Clinton would support two other legislative efforts: to repeal the gun industry's exemption from lawsuits against manufacturers — an exemption Bernie Sanders has supported — and to prevent stalkers and those convicted of abusing people they were dating from obtaining guns.

These seem like the kind of common-sense fixes with which a majority of Americans would agree.

 

Great.

But it's not a solution to the problem she's saying that she's addressing.

 

A politician pandering to his/her base by dishonestly suggesting he/she will accomplish, with the stroke of a pen, what others can't? Surely you jest ...

 

Where did she tie that proposal to a specific problem? It seems she's offered a number of proposals to address gun control across the board.

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on Monday proposed tighter gun-control measures, including expanded background checks, and suggested that if elected she would use executive powers to achieve her goals.

“I want to push hard to get more sensible restraints,” Clinton said on NBC’s “Today” show. “I want to work with Congress, but I will look at ways as president.”

She called for expanded background checks for firearms sales online and at gun shows. Clinton also called for closing loopholes in federal laws that allow for gun-sale transactions to be completed if the buyer’s background check is not finished within three days.

Clinton will unveil more details about her plans Monday during a campaign swing through New Hampshire.

 

It's a start, at least. Like Affordable Care is a start.

You have to start somewhere. Problems won't go away just bcause Congress ignores them.

 

Which would cut down about a handful of murders per year, if that.
